Our EcoBuddies guide provides educators with diverse activities and information designed to encourage students to explore plants and insects from a number of new perspectives – beginning with their own. Activities offer many learning outcomes, particularly in Science and Studies of Society and Environment.
EcoBuddies is an awareness and education campaign that began in 2010 as part of Nature's Weeding Centre's call for a more harmonious collaboration with all living beings. It is hoped that after working through these sections, students will be inspired to join in developing creative and sustainable initiatives for managing our harmonious co-existence with natural systems.
‘Weeds’ and 'pests are basically things we find inconvenient based on our existing priorities. If we think of plants and insects as things that out of control or out of balance with the ecosystem in which they live, most people have been taught to see them as bullies. The best way to manage bullies is to integrate them back into harmony with their community.
This guide will assist children to become EcoBuddies.
We hope you and your students find the information and activities useful and enjoyable. We welcome all feedback and suggestions.
