[DPI News 24/08/09] Parliamentary Secretary for Agriculture, Ben Hardman launched three important documents for the Glenelg Hopkins region during his visit to Sheepvention, in Hamilton. While spending the day touring and meeting Sheepvention exhibitors, Mr Hardman launched the Glenelg Hopkins Catchment Management Authority’s (GHCMA) Soil Health Strategy and Soil Health Plan, Regional Weed Plan and the New Weeds of the Glenelg Hopkins Catchment booklet. Mr Hardman said pest plants are among the most serious and costly threat to primary production and native biodiversity in the region. “It is estimated that weeds cost the Australian economy around $4 billion annually from their agricultural impact,” he said. |
