Title: Australian open gardens address weed control
[Sunraysia Daily 16 Nov 2010, p. 14] TO reduce the possibility of high-risk invasive plants being introduced into Victoria, 33 gardens involved in the Australian Open Garden Scheme were recently inspected for high-risk invasive plants. The owners of the gardens, some of the best in Victoria, collaborated with the Australian Open Garden Scheme and Department of Primary Industries officers, which performed the voluntary inspections. The inspections targeted high-risk invasive plants declared under the Catchment and Land Protection Act 1994, which are considered a threat to Victoria's agricultural, environmental and social assets. The Australian Garden Open Garden Scheme strongly supports a cooperative approach to reduce the risk of weeds such as water hyacinth infesting Victoria.
