Title: NSW proposal to amend the lippia control order

[NSW Department of Primary Industies - 15 October, 2009] It is proposed to amend the current weed control order to classify Phyla canescens (lippia) as a Class 4 weed in all of New South Wales and to apply control measures for this plant across New South Wales. The proposed amendments also revoke the current weed control order in so far as it applies to Phyla nodiflora.

The proposed control measures for lippia are that: The plant must not be sold, propagated or knowingly distributed by any person other than a person involved in hay or lucerne production and the growth and spread of the plant must be controlled according to the measures specified in a management plan published by the local control authority.

The exception in relation to hay and lucerne production will allow producers to continue their activities in lippia infested areas. These producers must adhere to all conditions specified in a management plan published by the local control authority.

It is also proposed to revoke the current Class 4 classification of lippia in the areas of Gunnedah Shire, Liverpool Plains Shire, Moree Plains Shire Councils and Tamworth Regional Councils as these areas will be included in the general control measures referred to above.

A copy of a draft Weed Control Order No. 25 pertaining to these changes and an explanatory note is available from your local NSW DPI office or accessible below.
