Title: Noxious weed proves costly

[Geelong Advertiser, 10 November, 2009: p.10] A morrisons land owner has been convicted in the Ballarat Magistrates Court for failing to control weeds, fined $1000 with $1492 in costs. The fine relates to a property that was infested with the noxious weed gorse along a section of the Ti-tree Creek. Department of Primary Industries pest management officer Jessica Seidel said outside the court that the weed had infested the creek banks and nearby flats. "It’s important that all land managers contribute to the control of this invasive plant," she said. Corangamite Catchment Management Authority program manager Leigh Dennis said it was critical for all land managers to play their part in the control of weeds such as gorse. "Gorse is a weed of regional priority and a weed of national significance that impacts on the natural assets of the region," he said.
