Title: 13th International Symposium on Biological Control of Weeds
[Pestnet 23 July 2011] From September 11 -16, the Waikoloa Marriott will host the 13th International Symposium on Biological Control of Weeds (ISBCW) on the Big Island. The ISBCW is the premier international forum for scientists and managers working in biological control of weeds around the world, and is held only once every 4 years. This meeting is being held in Hawai’i for the first time and will be a rare opportunity for our land managers, watershed managers, ranchers, farmers, and others working with invasive plants to interact with the world’s leading professionals in biocontrol. Biological control of weeds has been practiced in Hawai’i since 1902, longer than anywhere else in the world, and some of our most serious weeds have been managed through successful biocontrol efforts. However, biocontrol is not a “magic-bullet,” nor is it without risks and limitations. If you are a local land manager struggling with invasive weeds, this is an opportunity to learn more about biological control and how it may work for you.
