Title: Slash and learn at DPI Victoria weed field day
[Weekly Times, Wed. 18, 2009, p. 18] A NEW technique in managing one of southern Australia’s most invasive weeds, Chilean needle grass, will be demonstrated at Greenvale, near Melbourne, next week. The field day will feature two slasher modifications designed to stop weed seeds spreading along roadsides or carrying into clean pastures and native grasslands. Department of Primary Industries project manager Charles Grech said keeping machines free of needle grass was the best control method.
"We expect strong interest in the slasher demonstrations," hesaid.
Topics for the field day include an update on DPI research into Chilean needle grass, the results of flupropanate non-target herbicide trials, herbicide resistance and identifying weeds in hay.
