Title: Proposed biosecurity engagement framework released in Australia
An independent review of Australia’s quarantine and biosecurity arrangements for the Australian Government (Beale et al. 2008), stressed that biosecurity is a responsibility shared between government, industry and the community. This raised the question of how the broader post-border community could play a more active role in addressing biosecurity issues and how best to gain their interest and support for biosecurity-related practices and activities. The proposed biosecurity engagement framework is to provide guidance, insights, tips and tools to conduct effective community engagement for biosecurity purposes. This includes creating an enabling environment for biosecurity engagement (through the proposed national action plan) and providing principles, tips and tools to engagement practitioners operating in a regional and local context (best recommended practice, tools and mechanisms documents).
