Title: Scientists probe weeds' woodlands impact

[ABC News Thu Jul 9, 2009] A group of scientists and researchers continue a tour of the north-west New South Wales region today to examine the impact noxious weeds are having on what remains of grassy box woodlands. The Grassy Box Woodlands Conservation Management Network is taking the 35 experts on a bus tour that stretches from Tamworth to Canberra. They will visit Keepit Dam, Manilla, Somerton and Breeza today. Network coordinator Toni McLeish says while much is done on private property to control the spread of weeds, there are still problems in other areas that are beginning to become infested. "Landholders are very good - they know what weeds they've got to manage - but there's a lot of weeds that people aren't aware of," she said. "It's a lot to know - they've got to recognise, manage and control them. "We're hoping to raise awareness about that and let people know about the weeds that may be coming in the future."
