This book is an essential field resource for seasoned land managers, those new to the issue of weeds and even gardeners wanting to know if plants growing in their garden are natives or weeds. Featuring photos and descriptions for 150 species, the guide is an invaluable tool for land managers across the north. Full page descriptions are provided for 90 high priority main species, accompanied by maps and drawings, and more detailed information on identification, flowering and fruiting time, preferred habitat, dispersal mechanisms and recommended control methods. It also covers potential weeds not yet found in Northern Australia. Up to date weed information was provided by the NT, QLD and WA governments, including weed management branches and Herbariums, the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry’s Northern Australia Quarantine Strategy, pastoralists, land management groups and Indigenous Rangers. Weeds of Northern Australia: a field guide builds on Weeds of the Wet/Dry Tropics of Australia: A Field Guide (2002), which in turn was an updated and expanded version of Weeds of Natural Ecosystems: A Field Guide to Environmental Weeds of the Northern Territory, Australia (1995) by Nicholas Smith. Both these earlier books were also published by the Environment Centre NT. You can download the front cover below, plus a couple of example pages, to get a feel for the field guide.
